Laminated Teslin Cards over PVC?
Posted by thecardguys in Card Technology, Did you know? on September 25, 2012
Laminated Teslin makes excellent name tags and key tags and gift cards. The finish is a little glossier than the standard PVC cards and because they are cut out of 8.5″ x 11″ sheets, the size of the finished cards is not limited to our standard CR-80 cards. Teslin is a plastic sheet that prints like paper. According to PPG the manufacturer of Teslin when laminated Teslin bonds up to 8 times better with the laminate than other products, needs no laminate border and is water resistant.
Popular, durable and economical to customize, Laminated Teslin is an attractive alternative to PVC in many situations. Available to be custom printed and die cut into an unlimited number of shapes and sizes, a laminated Teslin card is a perfect fix for many card requirements. One features it does not allow for is the use in a PVC card printer for end user personalization, however we do support variable data production in-house when manufacturing custom laminated Teslin products.

Posted by shelleyhasselbrink in Did you know?, PlascoTrac on September 14, 2012
PlascoTrac is designed to be user-friendly and easy to use for attendance clerks, security guards, hall monitors etc. The concept of PlascoTrac is quite simple, but the results for schools are remarkable. At the base level, PlascoTrac replaces the handwritten tardy passes and detention slips and gives administrators an accurate method of logging all student activities and infractions. This means:
- No more long lines at the attendance office
- No more paper trail
- No more inaccurate/inaccessible log-books
In addition, PlascoTrac helps administrators on the back-end by offering an efficient means of overseeing compliance of disciplinary actions such as detentions, ISS, and Saturday School. Administrators will no longer need to track down habitual offenders and shuffle through piles of paperwork to know which students require extra intervention.

How to keep your image on your ID card!
Posted by thecardguys in Did you know? on September 13, 2012
Have you kept your ID card in your wallet too long? Have you seen the image transfer to the plastic lining?
When the image from your ID card transfers to that plastic piece the process is called dye migration. It occurs when a printed plastic card exposed to heat and pressure it then transfers the image to another surface damaging the image on the card. It is common in situations where employees, students and security guards work outside, leave their ID in vehicles, or store cards in a vinyl window of a wallet.
-How do you prevent the dye migration?
Use a laminating card printer. By adding a layer of laminate to your cards it will prevents dye migration, and also will make the cards more durable and scratch-resistant.
If a new printer isn’t an option you can buy anti-transfer badge holders. These badge holders are made of anti-print transfer material that won’t stick or transfer print from your ID cards. These badge holders are available in vertical and horizontal orientations for ID Cards and Proximity Cards.

Lose Your Keys With Access Control
Posted by shelleyhasselbrink in Access Control, Card Technology, Did you know? on September 12, 2012
Metal door keys have been the norm since locks have been around, but with great advancement in security and monitoring there are many reasons to upgrade to proximity cards. Access control systems are as basic as key entry or as complex as facial scanning.
A proximity (prox) card looks like a typical blank credit card with technology built inside the card. To access a building or room, a prox card is waived in front of a small wall-mounted reader outside the locked door. The card gives off a frequency and the reader wired to your main access control system grants or denies access to the cardholder based on your predefined card rights.
Benefits of Prox Cards
- No need for physical lock changing or re-keying.
- Deactivate a card if lost or stolen.
- Each cardholder is given a different access number for tracking.
- Monitor who accessed what doors, at what time and what day.
- Minimizes the risks of “keys” getting in the wrong hands.
- Reduce the needs for security guards.
Access control systems are long term purchase decisions that are scalable and can be customized around specific business needs and various levels of security access requirements. CI Solutions is your access control expert and will work with you to design a custom access control system. Call us at 800-599-7385 to discuss your security needs.
