ID Cards

At CI Solutions we offer a variety of ID cards to enable customers to get the right card solution for their unique requirement. Below are descriptions of each card type we offer.

PVC Cards are blank and custom printed cards. Technology enhanced cards with bar code, magnetic stripe, or RF electronics embedded in these cards are our specialty.

Laminated Teslin Cards are an attractive alternative to PVC in many situations. These are available to be custom printed and cut into an unlimited number of shapes and sizes.

Keytags can have a barcode, mag stripes, or RF (radio frequency) technology to support fast and accurate transactions. They provide the convenience for card holders of being attached to their key ring. There are many tag size options with beautiful digital color printing.

Gift cards are simple to start. Card values can be printed directly on stock or used with online programs for monitoring transactions and balances. These can support any reading technology, custom graphics, and form factor.

Smart Cards have an embedded smart chip within a PVC card body. The chip inside the card may serve a purpose as read/write memory device enabling many special applications to exist. Student transcripts, medical health history, retail purchase history, and many other vertical market requirements can benefit from an identification card serving as a memory device.

Bar Code Cards are the most cost effective, readable media available on a card product. They are easy to read with a variety of card reading equipment. We can provide bar code products or bar code issuance systems for end-users to meet all their card requirements.

Visitor ID allows all organizations to document visitors. The ease of capturing information and providing temporary identification is easy with CI Badge.

Prox Cards can be read without inserting it into a reader device. We provide all the HID card products, custom programming and special security, and printing features. Our reseller branding service assists HID card resellers with easy to remember branding on all their tag line printing.

Any further questions regarding ID cards, contact us and we will be happy to assist you.

Direct To Card or Reverse Transfer?

Have you wondered how ID cards are printed?

Do they use ink?

Do card printers print straight to plastic?

Plastic cards can be printed in two different ways, direct-to-card or with a retransfer printer; the difference is in where the image is printed first!

There are two different methods to transfer the ribbon to the card, each printing a slightly different result to meet the needs of a specific application and budget.

Direct-To-Card (DTC)

Direct To Card (DTC)  is the most common card printing technology used today. It allows for quality photo printing, pictures and full color logos; the process is controlled by the heat setting of the printhead which produces various sizes and densities of color. As the card is passed along the rollers, the heated printhead is applied to the card up to four times to create the perfect color, tones and highlights using CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and BlacK) ribbon. DTC printing produces sharp images with deep blacks and a full spectrum of colors. While this printing method is “edge to edge” it does not provide full coverage of the card. A thin white boarder is found around the card as a result of how the printhead is applied to the card. If it were to print to the edge, or off the card, it would cause damage to the part and possibly break. You can minimize the border with programmed ID card software.

Retransfer (Reverse Transfer)

Retransfer Printing produces a high definition image from a two step process, different than DTC printing. First the image is printed to a retransfer film that is then transferred to the PVC card.   The image of the card is printed in reverse directly to a clear layer of film; the printhead is then heated up binding the imagefilm to the card’s surface by applying heat and pressure. The printhead never physically touches the card. The retransfer process creates a true edge to edge (100% coverage) quality image on PVC cards and other card material types. This method is more costly than the DTC but produces a clearer brighter image, with more durability.
